PRACTICE INSIGHTS

For Motivated Students:

Regular practice is best if a student is looking at progressing quickly. Together with selective quality practice, there will be great progress.

Many concert musicians each practice an average of about 5-6 hours a day. But it is usually unrealistic for busy students to be able to achieve such practice duration. The best practice amount is dependent on the students' available hours and difficulty of their piano repertoires.

For Students Who Lack Motivation:

These are usually the students who lack practice. But does that mean they have lost interest in Piano? In most cases, not at all! The increasing level of repertoire difficulty and a low level of self-discipline are usually the causes. The Increasing level of difficulty will require students to adapt, often causing them to practice less. But once that stage has been overcome, it would be very rewarding. It would be best if these students have a family member to account to for their weekly practice. Ms Serene also challenges them to explore various genres of music.

A student who was previously on the verge of letting go of his piano learning journey due to his difficult attitude and lack of practice, has found joy and accomplishment after learning each of his favourite piano pieces. Although he still needs to be pushed to practice, his attitude towards learning has improved plenty and he enjoys playing the piano. He has since progressed from a starter grade level to being able to play grade 6 standard pieces, and is progressing to even more advanced grade materials! It would not have been possible if his parents had given up on his piano learning journey early on.
